I was considering a rant here about paranoia, lack of proportion and the arrogance with which the citizen is compensated for being inconvenienced with patronising platitudes about security, but I think that my opinions are nicely summed up by this comic.

i would rant here in your stead but i seem to have run out of effort.

I also dont know who to blame more, the governments, or the airlines who thought it was easier just to strand their customers rather then even try and run a service.

Suffice to say that not content wth keeping me fomr my own engagement party, easyjet have seen fit not to return any money for the flights i am unable (and have no need) to take due to being stranded in the wrong country.

If everyone was grounded i would have understood, but swiss and other people seem to have managed fine, easyjet just gave its staff a couple of days off.

There was a guy from Easyjet on Radio 4 saying they'd cancelled flights "because the airports had asked them to", to prevent overcrowding at security checks. Doesn't sound like forces beyond their control to me, unless they're corporately incapable of refusing a polite request. Plus, it's been five years since society decided that terrorist attacks would be over-reacted to. Surely that's enough time to ensure that your airport has the facilities to cope with a major terror alert?
